Centre stage is the 253 ft Wainhouse Tower built by John Edward Wainhouse in the late 19th century. Whilst the intention was for it be used as a working chimney, it never was, and as such is a folly. To its left is the Crossley Heath School, which dates back to 1585, with the present building opening in 1879.
Far right is 330.4-metre (1,084-foot) tall Emley Moor transmitting station, made from concrete it is 20 metres taller than the Shard in London. The thinner tower is a temporary mast whilst repairs and modifications are carried out on the original tower.
